Toys

Why is it that when I'm busy doing chores, washing the dishes, cleaning the kitchen, sweeping the floors, etc. I can think  up the most interesting, intelligent and stimulating diaries, but when I actually sit down at the keyboard, I draw a complete blank on what to write?

This occurs even if I sit down immediately after finishing said chores. It's like my mind mimics what's in front of me, if I'm busy and active, it's busy and active; if I have a blank page in front of me, it follows suit.

Inside: Surround Sound System bay-bie! Also, work is going well, but really, it's mostly bragging about new toys.

Not inside: ostentatious opining on the overall outlook in Ottawa. Olé!

We've been talking about it for years; we'd mention it every time the base in the theme to Babylon 5 cause the case of our TV to buzz. "One of these days were gonna have'ta", well, one of those days finally came around.

So, it has come to pass that we have a pair of these, one of these, one of these and a pair of these, all hooked together with one of these. Unfortunately they were all out of the latter set, and had to ship it in from another store. it's got a bit of a trip so they won't be here until next week.

Still, what we have now is 100-fold better than the puny TV speakers we used to have; which in turn was 10-fold better than the bitty 2" mono speaker in our old TV. We're not trying to become audiophiles, but we got a good deal on the setup and are happy with how it all sounds (even without the surrounds)

Now, as it turns out a non-insignificant amount of our TV watching comes ahem pre-digitized, so I picked up this, this and a MiniDVI->S-Video adapter so we can enjoy all of our entertainment on the big screen with surround sound, rather than watching shows with my gonads on a slow roast.

Anyways, enough bragging about new toys, on to bragging about work.

Work is, strangely enough, going well. Granted, 3 out of 5 days this week I'm on 6:30 am conference calls with a particularly cranky customer, but the good news is we've solved a few of the high-profile issues they've been complaining about. One of which the primary credit for finding and diagnosing goes directly to me.

Course, this inevitably means that something is going to go horribly wrong, but I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

(rest the work stuff holed due to... well, it being hole worthy)

soapy water by martingale (2.00 / 0) #1 Thu Jan 26, 2006 at 02:11:27 AM EST
The trick is to dip your fingers in tepid soapy water, maybe with a bit of ice cream and chicken fat mixed in. Always keep a small fingerbowl with the stuff next to the keyboard, and you'll write the greatest diaries while touch typing on a slippery keyboard.

+1B5.
