Print Story HuSiStock 2: the reawesoming
"Oh, I'm going to go and camp in the backyard of some folks I met on the internet"

*blank stare*

That was how most of my real world & not so real world friends reacted. It's kind of weird that despite how pervasive Teh Internets and Social Meteors have become, it's still seen as a little bizarre that one would fly across a continent to see people whom you have mostly interacted with via pixels.

Print Story Why an election would be undemocratic
So, we have the Governor General flying back from Europe to decide what to do with this Parliament. Here is one of the few times the real duties of the Governor General come out, and as always there is no lack of opinion on what she should do. One of the primary opinions coming from a lot of people, both CPC supporters and others, is that the only democratic solution is to dissolve parliament and have another election. That only elected governments have legitimacy. Hell, some of the CPC guys are going so far as to call the coalition "illegal".

They're wrong.

September always meant the same thing to me: the return to school and the inevitable frenetic week of canning that resulted after my cousin's ex Michel appeared out of the blue.

Things to strike off my bucket list:
  • Get soundly clocked on the jaw by misstrish
  • Get soundly humiliated while drunkenly arm-wrestling ni
  • Get soundly hungover in oppressive Torontonian heat and humidity
So far Toronto has been a wild success!

I fear there may be pictures...

A few pics of L'ilFlightTest and nstenz's wedding

They did an awesome job, anything that looks bad in these is entirely my fault. They pulled the whole thing off like the kick-ass couple they are.

"Ewww, it's warm! I didn't want it to be warm!"

Amongst the pieces of paperwork you have to file to become a pilot is one from a Doctor saying "Yes, I don't believe this person suffers from any serious medical problems". Today I had my appointment to obtain said paper work.

What I hadn't expected, but in hindsight it's obvious, was that the first thing I was expected to do was provide a "sample".

So, after some poking around, and getting a recommendation or two, we settled on giving these folks a whirl. I booked a "Fam" flight for janra and I for this morning at 11am, and showed up to meet a friendly, smiling instructor by the name of Jeff. He led us to a briefing room, and gave us a run-down on what we were going to be doing today.

To both our surprise, it included doing the actual take-off and landing!

Funny stuff
By MostlyHarmless (Tue Jan 31, 2006 at 08:55:49 PM EST) (all tags)
Thou shalt see this, as I can't fly to Toronto to see it myself.

Why? Because Tom Lehrer is the most brilliant satirist of the modern era, and while he hasn't written anything since the 60s his work is still stunningly accurate. ("Send in the Marines" comes to mind much too frequently these days)

Plus, you may get clues as to where Joh3n gets his nickname from.

Go. See it. Now!

That is all.

Toys
By MostlyHarmless (Wed Jan 25, 2006 at 07:28:54 PM EST) (all tags)
Why is it that when I'm busy doing chores, washing the dishes, cleaning the kitchen, sweeping the floors, etc. I can think  up the most interesting, intelligent and stimulating diaries, but when I actually sit down at the keyboard, I draw a complete blank on what to write?

This occurs even if I sit down immediately after finishing said chores. It's like my mind mimics what's in front of me, if I'm busy and active, it's busy and active; if I have a blank page in front of me, it follows suit.

Inside: Surround Sound System bay-bie! Also, work is going well, but really, it's mostly bragging about new toys.

Not inside: ostentatious opining on the overall outlook in Ottawa. Olé!

It's 1:45 am, and I really aught to be fast asleep by now, but the insomniac in me persuaded me to write a quick diary about the fair amount of stuff that's happened since my last real non-HuSiStock diary.

Contains:
Dad update - how he's doing
Wife update - what she's doing
Apartment update - Gigantic mountains of debt, here we come!
Work update - I got sick of coding, so I stopped doing it
